CloudIBR: Cloud DR for Veeam
Being a Veeam Legend has many advantages. Among them, interesting products are available for testing and learning.

Thanks to Wasabi, which offers me 1TB of storage for backups, I was able to test CloudIBR — a simple, automated system for creating a cloud disaster recovery (DR) site, provided that you use Veeam as your backup software and a cloud repository like Wasabi.
Setting up CloudIBR is incredibly easy. You just add the repository following super simple instructions — even for an old-school sysadmin like me who’s not exactly “cloud-native.” Then, you configure the backup encryption key and define some network settings, such as the IP of your on-prem gateway, subnets, etc. If needed, you can also whitelist your public IP for secure connections.
Once done, you just press a button, and after a few minutes, you get clear instructions on how to connect to your newly created cloud infrastructure — including an OpenVPN configuration file!
The first thing I did was connect to the “Veeam server.” I realized that CloudIBR automatically spins up a dedicated Veeam server, which starts up, pulls the backups from your cloud repository, and launches the VMs. Honestly, it’s faster to do than to explain!
Huge thanks to CloudIBR and once again to Wasabi! 🚀
P.S.: naturally you have to keep in mind that you are uploading your backup encryption key ;-) Remember GDPR if you are european

Now the clear instructions to access the “lab”

as you can see, there are many useful ways to access your in cloud infrastructure, OpenVPN, RDP to the created Veeam Server, RPD/port mapping to one of your machines etc etc. Seems great!
Once finished, you get a report in your email.
